King Kong: The Eighth Wonder of the World

On March 15th, 2020, King Kong returned to the silver screen for the first time in over 60 years. Presented by Turner Classic Movies and Fathom Events, this special screening celebrated the iconic film’s 87-year history since its debut on March 2nd of 1933. King Kong initially opened at Radio City Music Hall and the new RKO Roxy theater in New York City, with a combined seating capacity of almost 10,000 people, setting an all-time attendance record for a theatrical event.  The film then had its official world premiere on March 23, 1933 at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. It would go on to have a few re-releases over the years, with the last being in 1956, before being sold to television for broadcast. The film would go on to do great business internationally as well, transcending demographic lines and cultural differences.
